British military support for Ukraine New British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who won the July 4 general election, has pledged to support Ukraine. Starmer said that supporting Ukraine is on the agenda of the new UK government. This article examines British military support for Ukraine by the Labour Party.

We are not changing the British support policy towards Ukraine

The victory of the Labour Party came after 14 years of the Conservative Party dominating British politics. This victory has raised new issues about the future of the UK, especially the country’s defence policy. The latest British Prime Minister says his government will stand by London’s position on supporting Kyiv. According to Starmer, British military support for Ukraine will not change. Keir Starmer has announced that London’s support for Kyiv will remain unchanged during the conflict with Moscow. He announced that this support would stay at the same level during his prime ministership and would not decrease.

Zelenskyy’s thanks for Starmer’s supportive positions

Hours after the new British PM’s inauguration, Zelenskyy, the President of Ukraine, called him. He thanked Keir Starmer for London’s commitment to continue supporting Kyiv. Zelensky wrote on his social network: “I am grateful to Prime Minister Starmer for reaffirming the UK’s moral and unwavering support for Ukraine. ” The leader of Ukraine said that he congratulated Starmer on his victory in the British general election.

British aid to Ukraine after February 2022

Britain has been one of the staunchest supporters of Ukraine since the Russian invasion in February 2022. Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the UK has pledged around £12.5 billion in aid to Ukraine. Of the 12.5 billion pounds of British financial shortfalls to Ukraine, 7 billion pounds is military equipment. According to the Guardian, the rest of the UK’s commitments are economic and humanitarian aid. The Conservative Party fully supported Ukraine against Russia. With Labour’s victory in the general election, Starmer promised continued support for Ukraine.

Starmer met with Zelenskyy at the NATO summit

Keir Starmer went on a four-day visit to the United States to attend the NATO summit. This summit was held on the 75th anniversary of the founding of NATO. During this trip, he also met with Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the President of Ukraine. According to the Guardian, the British Prime Minister promised to give more than 3 billion pounds of military aid to Ukraine annually until at least 2031. In this meeting, Starmer promised that British military support for Ukraine would continue and that the Labour Party would be committed to supporting Ukraine.

Starmer’s meeting with Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the NATO summit

The new British Prime Minister met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the NATO Summit in Washington. Continuing London’s positions against Moscow, Starmer emphasized that the change of government in London would not change the British position. According to Starmer, this country’s support for the Kyiv front against Russia remains the same. He claimed that NATO’s determination to confront Russia is more significant than ever.

Starmer’s request to increase the military budget of NATO countries

According to the Guardian, during the NATO meeting, 32 member states promised that Ukraine’s membership in this pact is irreversible. However, they did not provide an exact date for Ukraine’s membership in NATO. According to the members of this military organization, announcing the actual date is a gift to Russian President Putin. In his speech, the new British PM called on NATO members to increase the military’s contribution to GDP to 2.5%. Starmer called on NATO members to increase their military budgets like the UK.

The visit of the new British defence minister to Ukraine

John Healey, the new British defence minister, travelled to Ukraine 48 hours after being appointed to this position. During this trip, he met with the President of this country, Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He promised that British military support for Ukraine would increase. Healey pledged that the new government of this country would provide more ammunition, missiles, and artillery weapons to Kyiv. These include 90 anti-armor Brimstone missiles, 50 small military boats, 40 minesweepers and 61 bulldozers.

The promise of delivering a sizeable military package to Ukraine within the next 100 days

In the meeting with Zelenskyy, John Healey promised new British military support to Ukraine. He emphasized that Britain will fully deliver a significant military package to Ukraine within the next 100 days. The latest British defence minister also promised new military aid to Ukraine. He emphasized that he would speed up the delivery of predetermined aid. Sky News reported that John Healey met with his Ukrainian counterpart, Rustem Umerov.

Continuation of British military support for Ukraine despite the cost of living crisis

During Labour’s term, the level of UK support for Ukraine will remain the same. Supporting Ukraine is one of the Labour Party’s foreign policy strategies. Keir Starmer is trying to increase support for Ukraine. On the other hand, according to the ONS report, the debts of the government of this country are growing. The national debt of the UK has reached more than 2 trillion and 700 billion pounds. Britain’s national debt is more than 100% of GDP. Officials in the new UK government have decided that British military support for Ukraine will not change. On the other hand, domestic protests are increasing daily due to the cost of living crisis.
