Israeli Violation of Diplomatic Rights: Expansion of Tensions If Netanyahu is not Restrained

Israeli violation of diplomatic rights

On April 1, Israeli warplanes originating from the Golan region launched an attack on the Iranian consulate building in Damascus, deploying six missiles. This assault resulted in the deaths of two high-ranking Iranian military advisors in Syria and five accompanying officers. The strike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus transpired amid Israel’s explicit repudiation of the 1968 Vienna Convention. This article addresses the Israeli violation of diplomatic rights and their repercussions on the international stage.

Israel declares war against Iran

Israeli violation of diplomatic rights can have dire consequences. By attacking the Iranian consulate, Israel violated consular and diplomatic immunity. Israeli officials publicly stood up to the UN Charter. An action that, apart from the location of the attack, targeted people who were all of Iran’s high-ranking military advisors in Syria. For this reason, this attack was a declaration of Israel’s open war against Iran.

Iran’s first action after Israel attacks the consulate

Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations initially penned a letter to the Security Council. Iran asked the Security Council members to condemn Israel’s criminal act in the strongest possible terms. After Iran’s request, an urgent meeting of the Security Council regarding Israel’s attack on the Iranian consulate was arranged. In this emergency meeting, the representatives of member countries in the Security Council condemned the Israeli attack. Most of the countries present at the meeting strongly condemned Israel’s action against the UN Charter.

The non-condemnation of Israel’s attack on the Iranian consulate by its allies

After the Israeli missile attack on the Iranian consulate building in Damascus, it was decided to hold an emergency meeting of the Security Council. In this meeting, the leaders of the present countries condemned the Israeli missile attack. They reacted to Israel’s violation of consular and diplomatic immunity. Meanwhile, some countries such as France, America, and the UK did not condemn this action. Instead, in a predictable position, they blamed Iran.

Universal demand for global condemnation of Israel2

A comprehensive demand is needed to draft a resolution against Israel based on Chapter 41 of the UN Charter. The title of the seventh chapter of the United Nations Charter is Action about threats to the peace, breaches of the peace, and acts of aggression. When the Security Council wants to raise a severe threat against a country, it puts that country under Chapter VII. This is even though paragraph 42 of the seventh chapter includes the use of force and the military option. Military force is intended to contain the country and the threat.

The only way to curb Netanyahu’s madness

Israel continues the genocide of Gaza without hesitation. Like an uncontrollable madman, they violate all international protocols, human rights, and the UN Charter. Therefore, Iran’s proposal can be considered the best possible decision. Of course, such a decision is the only way to restrain a madman called Netanyahu.

Increasing Israeli air strikes against Iran’s interests

As a result of the recent Israeli attack on the Iranian consulate building in Damascus, the senior commanders of the IRGC’s Quds Force lost their lives. Israeli airstrikes have increased since October. The latest attack took place after Ismail Haniyeh, the political leader of Hamas, visited Iran on March 5. Targeting an Iranian diplomatic center for the first time to assassinate high-ranking commanders of this country creates a critical problem.

Israeli violation of diplomatic rights

The Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations articles indicate that diplomatic and consular posts are inviolable. Israeli violation of diplomatic rights was a public violation of international laws. This attack violates the fundamental principle of immunity of diplomatic and consular posts in the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

Also, the 1963 Vienna Convention on Consular Relations will lead to a significant crisis between Iran and Israel. However, no deterrent decision was taken regarding Israel’s actions regarding the attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus. This attack was a clear example of a violation of the UN Charter. There was no decision on issuing a resolution against Israel.

Israel under the pressure of world public opinion

Israeli violation of diplomatic rights can lead to an all-out war in the Middle East. Since October 7, Israel has been under pressure from its public opinion and the international community due to the Gaza war. For this reason, to reduce some of these pressures, Israel wants to divert attention to another direction by attacking Iran. In short, Israel is trying hard to reduce Iran’s influence in Syria and Lebanon. First, Israel responded to the Security Council’s ceasefire resolution by escalating the massacre of the people of Gaza.

Now, by attacking the Iranian consulate in Damascus to spread the conflict, it is openly challenging the international community. The Security Council must respond to Israel’s reckless defiance by passing a seventh-chapter resolution equipped with executive levers. Israel is a threat to global peace and security.
