A Sharp Slump in Popularity: Public Dissatisfaction with Keir Starmer

Public Dissatisfaction with Keir Starmer

The slow response of Keir Starmer to the Far-right riots has decreased his popularity.  New polling for The Telegraph shows the Prime Minister’s approval ratings have plummeted in the fortnight since the far-Right unrest broke out. The proportion of voters with a “strongly unfavorable” view of him rose by six points after the first week of violence.

Public Dissatisfaction with Keir Starmer is significantly increased after his response to the riot. He is criticized for the late holding of the Cobra meeting. Another criticism is that when the country is in such a mess, Starmer is planning to go on holiday with his family.  Sir Keir Starmer’s net approval rating is down 10 per cent in the last few weeks. It is 26 points below his first approval rating as prime minister following the bumpy few weeks in UK politics.

Public Dissatisfaction with Keir Starmer: Slow Handling of Riots

Starmer has suffered a sharp slump in popularity after criticism of his handling of the riots that have hit Britain. New polling for The Telegraph shows the Prime Minister’s approval ratings have plummeted in the fortnight since the far-Right unrest broke out. The proportion of voters with a “strongly unfavorable” view of him rose by six points after the first week of violence. The criticism is over Sir Keir’s slow response to the unrest. It also includes a decision not to hold a Cobra meeting until a week after the disorder first began.

Sir Paul Stephenson, a former Metropolitan Police commissioner, has said he was “not impressed” by Sir Keir’s response. Starmer had prioritized tough language over action. Chris Hopkins said: “Starmer’s popularity appears to have rebounded back to Earth after the post-election honeymoon period.

Public Dissatisfaction with Keir Starmer: Very Soon to have negative ratings

As Starmer approaches the end of his first 50 days in office, his government’s performance has split the public. About a quarter (24%) feel more positive about Labour since it won the election, while 29% feel more negative. Labour has lost some ground on the economy, down to four points, and health, down three points since the election.

Starmer’s personal ratings, which spiked after his election win, have fallen back to their negative pre-election levels. His net approval rating is -7%, down 10 points from the beginning of August. It is down 26 points from his first approval rating as prime minister.

Fracture in British Society: Wide Criticism of Starmer’s Performance

However, the fractures in British society are clear. Public dissatisfaction with Keir Starmer has gone wider. Sir Keir himself has come in for widespread criticism, including from Elon Musk, that his government is using double standards in policing. Citing questionable sources, they have accused the police of using harsher methods on the “British” rioters than on any “Muslim” troublemakers. The moniker Two-Tier Keir has swiftly made the rounds on social media.

Luke Tryl said: “With violent disorder spreading across the UK, Starmer’s favorability among the public is the lowest since the election. This is a pretty bad sign for Starmer. Given that you might expect a ‘back the Government’ moment in times like this and suggests a much more visibly muscular response.” Britain’s broken society needs time to heal. It was never likely that Sir Keir Starmer would enjoy much of a honeymoon after winning July’s general election in a Labor landslide. But not even the direst of forecasts could have predicted the grisly events that have transpired over the past few weeks.

Honeymoon period over: Starmer’s approval rating drop

Sir Keir Starmer’s net approval rating is down 10 per cent in the last few weeks. It is 26 points below his first approval rating as prime minister following the bumpy few weeks in UK politics. Opinium’s latest poll shows the public perception of the PM has started to slide just weeks into the new administration. It is because riots on the streets of Britain have become a focal topic.

Public Dissatisfaction with Keir Starmer is clear in his net approval ratings that sits at -7 per cent, down 10 points. It is lower than +3 at the beginning of August. It is also down 26 points from +19 per cent in his first approval rating as prime minister.

Keir Starmer’s popularity falls just six weeks after he was elected

The popularity of Sir Keir Starmer, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, has already fallen just six weeks after the election. For 14 years the Labor party had to settle as the opposition to the Conservatives who held government until 4 July 2024. It was the time when people decided they wanted change. Ipsos carried out the poll between the 9 and 12 August.

At his time of election, the Labor leader had an approval rating of +7. Following this recent poll he now sits at a neutral 0 with 38% of people thinking of the PM favorably as they do unfavorably. In keeping with classic British pessimism, the survey found that 52% of Brits think the UK is heading in the wrong direction.

Public Dissatisfaction with Keir Starmer: He goes on a holiday with his family

According to an Opinium poll published over the weekend, the prime minister’s net approval rating has fallen by 16 points. It is for the UK gripped by riots and civil unrest with far-right thugs attacking the police, mosques and shops across the UK. The survey was taken while there was speculation that Sir Keir would go ahead with his family holiday with violence still escalating across the country.

Critics argue that he should have provided clarity about his holiday plans earlier. He called COBR last week after the first riot took place in Southport. Tory shadow home secretary James Cleverly said: “I am critical that they could and should have made the key decisions earlier. Most of yesterday we were still not sure whether the prime minister would or would not be going on holiday. I don’t think it sends the right signal.
