UK Labour Party’s stance on the Gaza crisis: From Jeremy Corbyn to Keir Starmer

UK Labour Party's stance on the Gaza crisis

MADRID, SPAIN - OCTOBER 20: A protester holds a Palestinian flag duringd a vigil in honor of the victims of Gaza Strip on October 20, 2023 in Madrid, Spain. There has been an escalation in pro-Palestinian demonstrations worldwide, following the October 17 explosion at the Al-Ahli al-Arabi Hospital in the Gaza Strip, amid the renewed fighting between Israel and Hamas, which launched a surprise attack in southern Israel on October 7. Jeremy Corbyn labels Keir Starmer a ‘disgrace’ due to his Israel-Gaza stance. In an interview with LBC, the former Labour Party leader expressed his discontent with Starmer’s stance on the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. This article delves into Jeremy Corbyn’s remarks regarding the Gaza crisis and its potential impact on Keir Starmer’s political popularity. The Labour Party’s position on the Gaza conflict holds significant importance for its political success, emphasising the importance of upholding humanity and democracy over imperialism for political figures to consider.

Palestinians’ sufferings

As reported by AA, Israel had previously declared an expansion of its ground operations in the Gaza Strip, raising concerns that a much-feared ground offensive might be underway. On Friday evening, communication and internet services in the Gaza Strip were entirely severed, with the Palestine Telecommunications Company attributing this disruption to extensive Israeli airstrikes targeting infrastructure such as feeder lines, networks, and communication towers. In addition to this, the 2.3 million residents of Gaza are facing severe shortages of essential supplies, including water, food, medicine, and fuel. Even with recent aid convoys granted access to Gaza, the assistance provided has fallen significantly short of the region’s urgent requirements.

The US is the root of civilian casualties in Gaza.

US Imperialism is the root of conflict in the Middle East, including the Gaza crisis. The US government is supporting Israeli war crimes, and it is attempting to deceive the public. As CNN reports, White House National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby presented a report. He told reporters Monday that the government believes Israel is “certainly” trying to minimise humanitarian casualties in Gaza.

What the CNN reports is against the reality. The war aim of the Israeli so-called Defense Forces is genocide, leading to the death of many Palestinian civilians. Israel aims at killing Palestinians, including women and children. The electricity shortage in Gaza has caused severe problems for hospitals. The impact of power cuts on healthcare is glaring. No food, no fuel, and no medicine caused by Israel in Gaza aimed at killing civilians.

UK Labour Party’s stance on Gaza crisis: Keir Starmer following US policies

Regarding the UK Labour Party’s stance on the Gaza crisis, Keir Starmer is following US policies. He is supporting the genocide of Palestinian civilians by Israel. As POLITICO reports, Keir Starmer has emphasised his position on the war between Israel and Hamas despite open revolt on the opposition Labour Party’s front bench. In a speech at the Chatham House foreign policy think tank, Starmer faced down calls for a ceasefire in Gaza. He said this would only “embolden” Hamas to launch another attack.

Dozens of Labour MPs, including some shadow Cabinet members, have been lobbying Starmer’s office to change its position. They have warned that the party is losing considerable support from the British Muslim community.

As opposed to what Labour MPs believe, Starmer’s party will lose support from all Brits who advocate democracy and humanity. This is not a matter of only the British Muslim community.

European people support humanity and condemn Israeli war crimes.

Despite the suppression of governments, millions of people all over Europe are supporting humanity and condemning Israeli war crimes. They are calling for a free Palestine. In line with many European people and contrast to Keir Starmer, Jeremy Corbyn insists on a ceasefire. According to AA, as darkness falls over the people of Gaza, a ceasefire is an absolute must, says Corbyn. “People in Gaza are dying in the darkness,” Corbyn wrote on X. “This unthinkable horror cannot be undone – and history will not forgive those who refused to treat Israeli and Palestinian lives with equal worth.

Free people of the world will admire Jeremy Corbyn’s support of humanity. Starmer needs to remember that the EU and US leaders are losing their popularity due to supporting Israeli war crimes. Starmer will not be remembered as a positive political figure in history unless he stops supporting the genocide happening in Gaza.

World leaders are expected to take action for International intervention in the Gaza crisis. Israeli-Palestinian conflict needs to end before more civilians, including women and children, die with one-ton US-made bombs in Gaza.
