Johnson’s Brexit Invigorated Ideas for Irish Unity

Johnson’s Brexit Invigorated Ideas for Irish Unity

Indeed, Ireland has been an independent island with an independent government and culture over the past years.

But in 1169, England invaded this country, and this country became Britain’s colony. Irish men and women protested against Britain for the following years and asked for their independence.

They wanted to return to the previous years and have their government, culture, and independent country.

Irish men and women wanted to resist their previous independence without another country’s interference in their country.

In fact, between 1916 and 1921, Irish Nationalists held a campaign against Britain and protested against its occupation of their country.

So, from the 19th century to the 20th century, Britain started its domination in Ireland with a new definition of holding democracy in this country. But its real intention was the occupation of this country.

Indeed, creating democracy in this country was Britain’s collusion for cheating this country for the sake of abusing this country’s benefits for itself.

Within the six-country state let, the British government fostered political division between Irish Catholics and Protestants through a system of political, social, and economic privilege.

The in-built manufactured unionist majority meant continuous government by the unionist party. Today the unionist community represents someone in five of the Irish nations.

Nationalists didn’t like living under the domination of Stormont because the authority of Stormont was based on discrimination, and nationalists were against this kind of government and domination.

In 1980 Sinn Fein was a real protester of Britain’s attendance in

Ireland, and it did try very hard to take Britain out of Ireland.

It held extensive campaigns to reach its goal and wanted to create national peace in Ireland.

It did different activities to reach its goals. In the 1980s, there were two hunger strikes. These hunger strikes were held to take Britain out of Ireland.

Can Sinn Fein hold Irish unity referendum?

Mary Lou McDonald took part in a conference and gave a speech on Thursday and talked about the necessity of holding Irish unity referendum.

She also spoke about the advantages of the unity referendum for Northern Ireland. According to her speech at the conference, the Irish unity referendum will be very effective for the Northern Ireland government and reduce the cost of living crisis.

Indeed, after a long time that Britain has made significant obstacles to Northern Ireland’s promotion and abused its advantages, Sinn Fein became the biggest party for the first time in Northern Ireland.

So the time that Irish people take part in the Northern Ireland election to vote for Irish unity is a sensitive time for Northern Ireland.

According to polls, Sinn Fein is set to become the largest party in the region’s assembly, putting Northern Ireland one step closer to breaking away from the United Kingdom and uniting with the Republic of Ireland.

Sinn Fein- once the political wing of the militant provisional Irish Republican army- has run a campaign focused on bread-and-butter issues like the rising cost of living and problems in the National Health Service.

The centrist Alliance party has done the same. “There are two main issues that are coming up again and again: cost of living and health care,” says Nuala McAllister, a candidate for the Alliance party.

Only the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP), which advocates for staying part of the United Kingdom, has made Northern Ireland’s political statues an issue on the campaign trail.

The Protestant community cannot have any resistance against the Irish community

People in Northern Ireland sought independence and tried to hold Irish unity referendum. Also, Protestants cannot stand against the Irish people and should accept that they are a religious minority in Ireland.

Indeed, Protestants in Northern Ireland is a political, Cultural, and Geographical Examination.

Evidence shows that the Protestant community in Northern Ireland has become increasingly alienated. Unionist Politicians, Protestant church leaders, and the media have all referred to ‘Protestant alienation’.

Yet, conceptually speaking, there is a lack of clarity not only about the term but also about the factors that may give rise to it.

Protestants and Good Friday agreement

The Good Friday Agreement ended one of the most protracted conflicts in Northern Ireland between the Catholics and Protestants.

The cause of the rift was the fate of a ‘united Ireland’. While one side wanted to stay with the UK, the other wanted to join the Republic of Ireland.

After decades of violence and conflicts, peace came with the signing of this agreement that declared the people’s will as supreme and created some institutional changes to ensure stability in the country.

The Good Friday agreement was an agreement that ended the conflicts in Northern Ireland. It was signed on April 10th, 1998, and was confirmed on May 22nd, 1998. Indeed, the Irish people voted for this agreement.

This agreement created political institutes in Northern Ireland and clarified Ireland’s relationship with Britain and Ireland.

Even this agreement caused the Irish people to be free to choose whether or not to stay in Ireland. Indeed, this agreement was the base of people’s requests.

Britain governed Northern Ireland for hundred years. After a long time, the Ireland government decided to get separated from Britain and form the Irish republic.

Some people decided to remain in Ireland, and some chose to remain in Britain. Indeed, Protestants decided to stay in Britain and were satisfied with being a part of Britain’s government.

But Unionists wanted to be independent of Britain and join the Irish republic. They were mostly Catholics.

Protestants had great domination over Catholics, and this event caused Catholics to tolerate a bad situation.

There was noticeable discrimination between these two groups, and Catholics protested this situation.

The changes between Ireland and Northern Ireland

In an election in May, a unionist party became Northern Ireland’s leader. Indeed, the first minister believed that there wasn’t any necessity for the existence of Northern Ireland.

Moreover, Sinn Fein has promised that it will try hard to hold an accurate referendum.

However, the way Unionists react against these changes during the current days is significant.

The Protestant community cannot stand against Northern Ireland people. Even in 2022, it cannot resist against Northern Ireland people.

In 2022 and after that, it cannot do anything that appeals to Northern Ireland people. It must behave according to the Good Friday agreement.

Protestants must accept that they can live in Northern Ireland as a minority religion. There are fewer anxieties as compared with the past.

Ireland is experiencing significant changes, and its situation has become much better than the previous days.

Indeed, when Northern Ireland became independent, Britain could not abuse it anymore and will experience significant changes.

Ireland is going to experience various changes in the future. Today Ireland has become more independent, more developed, and better than before.

There are significant changes in culture, religion, and other aspects. Even it is experiencing a better social situation.

Today there isn’t any discrimination between different civil communities, and there is no place for defending Catholics in finding jobs and other social positions.

Now Ireland has a more beautiful meaning for Protestant youth, and they are waiting for a better future,
