NHS Bankruptcy: UK's health system at risk of collapse

NHS Bankruptcy: UK's health system at risk of collapse

What is the increase in waiting time to see a doctor in the UK?

What is the reason for the UK nurses’ strike?

What measures has the UK government taken to compensate for the budget deficit?

What has been the reaction of the UK government to the proposal to increase nurses’ salaries?

According to published statistics, 4,000 patients in the emergency department of British medical centers have to wait 12 hours for a general practitioner visit, which is a complete disgrace to the British national health system. The British National Health Service (NHS) was launched for the first time in 1948 and after the end of the Second World War, to provide medical services to the injured and wounded in the war. Currently, with one million and 600 thousand employees, it offers free of charge to the people. England provides health services. NHS bankruptcy is dangerous.

Increased waiting time for a doctor’s visit

NHS bankruptcy is very likely. The latest published data shows that 43,792 patients waited more than 12 hours in the emergency room last October just for the doctor to decide whether to admit them to the department. This amount shows a 50% increase compared to the previous year, and it is said that the more difficult access to the emergency room is the cause of the death of about 2,000 people per month.

Crowding of hospitals and confusion among patients

NHS bankruptcy will lead to confusion for patients. Adrian Boyle, the president of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM), in an interview with the Sunday Telegraph, pointed out the overcrowded condition of hospitals and the high number of wandering patients in the corridors of medical centers. It took to transfer patients from the ambulance to the emergency room and warned that the country’s health system was on the verge of collapse. Referring to the arrival of the cold season and the spread of seasonal viruses, Boyle warned against the escalation of the situation and said: “I am apprehensive about the numbers dying for want of prompt care, with hospitals increasingly too overcrowded to cope with the number of people coming in.”

Low wages for British nurses

The NHS bankruptcy is due to the lack of attention to the demands of the medical staff. He said British nurses are planning to stop working before the Christmas holidays to protest their working conditions and wages for the first time in the country’s history. They want to increase their paychecks due to rising prices and the cost of living crisis. Health Secretary Steve Barclay has accused nurses’ union officials of putting patient safety at risk by refusing to attend a meeting to decide which services are exempt from strike action.

Strike in protest of low wages

The NHS bankruptcy is worrying. However, Pat Cullen, the union’s general secretary, responded that he is only willing to negotiate on the status of nurses’ salaries. The British health secretary has also said that holding a strike increases the level of uncertainty of patients about their care and treatment. Due to the nurses’ strike, more than 30,000 surgeries, chemotherapy sessions, cancer tests and thousands of doctor visits will be postponed.

The tremendous pressure of the NHS on the government budget

The National Health Service currently covers 64,100,000 people in the whole of the UK, of which 53,900,000 are in England. The budget of the National Health Service in 1948 amounted to 437 million pounds, and this figure has reached about 136 billion pounds this year, putting much pressure on the government budget. This country imports. The NHS bankruptcy is due to the inability of the national government to meet the costs.

Reduction of public expenditure by the UK government

The UK government has resorted to reducing public welfare expenses, including in the health sector, to reduce the budget deficit and organize the economic situation. Nurses in most of the UK will join other UK employees and workers in the first strike in their union’s 106-year history as they walk off the job to protest rising inflation and low wages. NHS bankruptcy will be very close if current trends continue.

Rejection of the government’s proposal to increase nurses’ salaries

Nurses across England, Wales and Northern Ireland will join strikes on December 15 and 20 after the head of the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) announced that government officials had rejected their offer to negotiate a pay rise. This will be the latest strike in the UK, where high inflation in recent decades and a cost of living crisis have prompted workers in various sectors to demand higher wages due to rising prices.

Different jobs strike due to the cost of living crisis

The NHS bankruptcy leads to strikes in other sectors of the economy. The nurses’ strike will be held between the first two-day strikes by railway workers across the country. Postal service workers will also strike on Christmas Eve. Many employees of other public and private sectors, from lawyers to airport ground staff, have also gone on strike this year.

Unsafe working conditions of British nurses

Pat Cullen, general secretary of the Royal College of Nursing, said: “Ministers have chosen strike action. Nursing staff have had enough of being taken for granted, enough of low pay and unsafe staffing levels, enough of not being able to give our patients the care they deserve.” The union, which wants a significant increase in the wages of its members above the rate of inflation, announced earlier this month that more than 300,000 people, who make up the majority of the union’s members, have voted to strike.

Bankruptcy pending for the British health system

The widespread dissatisfaction among the employees working in the National Health System, including a significant part of the doctors who will resign in protest of the current situation, has put this complex, more than ever, in danger of full-scale bankruptcy. The British Medical Association (BMA), which has recently conducted studies on the health care system of this country, has warned about the collapse of this complex and has called for immediate government action.

Resignation of British doctors and nurses

According to studies, about 44% of specialists working in British hospitals plan to leave or go on leave in the next year. This amount reaches 50% among surgeons. In recent months, there have been several warnings about the disorderly state of British health and medical services, but this is perhaps one of the most severe. Experts say that the significant loss of senior staff in this complex will lead to burnout of other staff and severe damage to patient care.

The dissatisfaction of NHS senior staff

An 8,000 senior NHS employees survey shows they are dissatisfied with their working conditions and wages. 90% of British professionals protest that the 4.5% increase in their salaries is incompatible with the cost of living crisis and rising inflation. However, experts attribute part of this dissatisfaction to the pressures caused by the Covid-19 epidemic crisis, which put significant pressure on this complex.

Decreasing the quality of NHS services

Vishal Sharma, BMA pension’s committee chair, says: “The NHS is already at breaking point and cannot afford to lose any of its staff, never mind facing the prospect of losing nearly half of its most senior doctors.” He warned that the loss of NHS doctors would not only have a significant adverse impact on the quality of patient care but would also increase pressure on staff who remain in the organization and put them at risk of burnout.

The report of the British Medical Association has been published. At the same time, the most significant British nurses’ union has also announced the possibility of a strike by the employees of this department. They are protesting about their salary and working conditions. At the same time, the employees of other public sectors of the country, from the railway network to the post office and lawyers, have gone on strike several times. But Rishi Sunak’s government, despite the country’s economic problems, is not able to meet the expectations of the protesting employees.
