On Sinn Fein’s Popularity in Ireland

Sinn Fein's popularity

COALISLAND, NORTHERN IRELAND - MAY 18: Sinn Fein northern leader Michelle O'Neill casts her vote in the Northern Ireland council elections on May 18, 2023 in Coalisland, Northern Ireland. Political commentators have suggested that the local elections results will be seen as a barometer regarding the Democratic Unionist Party's policy of refusing to return to Stormont and forming a government with Sinn Fein. The number of Sinn Fein supporters is increasing day by day. Sinn Fein’s popularity shows that Irish people are tired of staying in Britain. They are determined to build a united Ireland. As Bloomberg says, Sinn Fein has become the largest party in the North and is leading the polls in the Republic of Ireland. As RTE says, a new survey shows increased support for Sinn Fein. The Irish Echo says two polls show Sinn Fein is becoming the largest party in government. Support for Sinn Fein has broken all previous records in the latest poll, the Irish Examiner says. The Sunday Times/Behavior and Attitudes surveyed between March 28 and April 4. According to Spiegel International, Sinn Fein leader Mary Lou Macdonald says: “We will see a referendum on the union in the next decade”. Two major Belfast universities conducted a joint research study, Politico says. The study shows that many Northern Irish residents believe they will leave the UK within the next two decades.

Which party is more popular in Ireland?

Sinn Féin’s popularity was 36% in the last poll, while Fine Gael earned 20% in polls. Compared with two other parties, Sinn Féin is more popular. Indeed, this rate of popularity is because of its practical efforts for Ireland’s improvement. Another assessment shows the statistics of Sinn Féin’s popularity in detail. It shows that it has 41% male and 36% of female voters. Many young people are fans of this party because of its efforts for the housing crisis in Ireland. There are two other parties in Ireland, Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael. But the percentage of, the latest statistics show that Sinn Féin earned more popularity as compared with these two countries. Sinn Féin’s popularity in Ireland is because of its supporting love for the housing crisis and preventing renting houses for a short time. Indeed, the central Bank has legislated a rule in Ireland, and according to this rule, the first house buyers can receive at most 3.5 % times their annual salary. However, Irish people disagree with this rule and have said that first-house buyers should be able to borrow more than 3.5 times their salary. Even people believe that the Bank should reduce the amount of money that the first house buyers should deposit in the Bank. Even there are some requests for paying tax for vacant houses. According to this request, the government is going to investigate empty dwellings.

What has made Sinn Féin more popular than Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil?

Our day will come has been the Irish people’s slogan for a long time. Sinn Féin is a nationalist party in Ireland that wants Ireland’s democracy. It intends to separate Northern Ireland from the United Kingdom and create the Republic of Ireland. On May 5th, in the Northern Ireland election, there was an election, and Sinn Féin won Northern Ireland’s assembly and became the largest party in Stormont. Indeed, the secession of the UK is the best turning point for Ireland’s promotion. And Sinn Féin’s popularity in Ireland was the best streak for this event. Indeed, Britain didn’t expect any statement about the Irish border after the Brexit contract. Yet the Republic of Ireland and its allies in the European Union maintained that only a border on the island of Ireland would hinder the Irish economy and the Good Friday Agreement.

With the leadership of Mary Lou McDonald, the Sinn Féin party has created a good effect, and this kind of leadership has increased Sinn Féin’s popularity in Ireland.

Also, this party has caused a positive impression among people by emphasizing a motto: building an “Ireland of equal” in a “planned, orderly, democratic, and entirely peaceful” manner. Mary Lou McDonald and Michelle O’Neil have even increased their party’s popularity by promising to investigate people’s financial situations. They promised to return money to people’s pockets, and this promise had a significant role in increasing their impression in Ireland. And Sinn Féin has talked about the destructive effects of COVID-19- Brexit, the Ukraine-Russia war, and the cost of living crisis on the current financial problems of this country. Different practical promises by this party have caused Sinn Féin’s popularity in Ireland. Sinn Féin has promised to solve people’s economic problems and the cost of living crisis. It has pledged to provide better health services to hospitals by creating a situation that stops people from waiting a long time to be visited by doctors and receive appropriate health services. This party has announced that it will allocate $1 billion in healthcare and $300 million to facilitate and provide more healthcare services. In the Republic of Ireland, Sinn Féin is trying hard to reduce the housing rent rate, increasing people’s wages, providing more social welfare payments, and abolishing student fees. There are lots of decisions that Sinn Féin has made to promote Irish people’s life. These compelling works are necessary for the future of Ireland.

Sinn Fein’s popularity in Ireland has dropped!

Sunday Independent wrote that after a long time of having popularity in Ireland, Sinn Féin will lose its support. Over eight months, this is the first time that Ireland has faced this crisis. However, Mary Lou McDonald’s party is still the most popular in Ireland. But its popularity has decreased to 31%. It is the first poll reversal in Ireland Thinks series for the Sunday Independence since March last year. Sinn Féin, with its president Mary Mc Donald, has had the most excellent support since the 2020 General Election. The overall state of the parties is Sinn Féin on 31%, down four; Fine Gael on 24%, up three; Fianna Fáil on 15% support, down 1; Green Party on 5%, up one. Labor Party on 4%, no change; Social Democrats, on 4%, no; people Before Profile/ Solidarity 3%, no change; no change; Aontu on 2%, up one; independents are unchanged at 11%.

Sinn Fein introduced a bill that would force the government to reverse the decision to end the eviction ban.

However, another reason is that Sinn Féin is getting more popular than other parties in Ireland. Now Fine Gael’s dissatisfaction is reaching a minuscule amount while Sinn Féin is still getting more successful and popular in Ireland. Sinn Féin has 37% support, while Fianna Fáil support has reached 21%. However, the most noticeable change has been support for Fine Gael, now the country’s third most popular party. Although this percentage of Fine Gael satisfaction and approval is not satisfactory, it is worrying. There are many opposition polls to the government due to not extending the eviction ban that finished at the end of March. Marry Lou McDonald is now the most popular leader among other party leaders, earning 48% satisfactory polls. At the same time, Leo VaradKar’s popularity has dropped from 41% in February to 34%-his lowest level in three years.
