The U.S. claims that worldwide it aims to protect security and the rights of nations. Under this pretext, it has had a military presence in numerous countries. A look at the U.S.’s relations with other countries shows that these relations are based on U.S. interests. Reliance on the American Government is a big mistake that can have serious consequences. The only way for governments to save their nations is to distance themselves from the U.S. and its policies. Below, we will briefly review the relationships between the U.S. and several countries. We will examine what the U.S. Department of state says about relations with some countries. Then we will refer to the damages the countries have received from the U.S.
Relationship between U.S. and Afghanistan
The U.S. Department of State says the U.S. established diplomatic ties with Afghanistan in 1935. Afghanistan remains an essential partner of the United States in the fight against terrorism. Afghanistan worked with us to eliminate al-Qaida, ISIS-Khorasan (ISIS-K), and their affiliates in the country. We continue to invest U.S. resources to help Afghanistan improve its security, governance, institutions, and economy. It says the U.S. aims to strengthen Afghanistan’s capabilities as a partner. Surprisingly, it adds that the U.S. seeks to improve the lives of the Afghan people.
What the U.S. claims are against reality. As Global Times says, in the 20-year-long Afghanistan war, the U.S. has committed horrible war crimes in the country. But Washington and the Pentagon usually refuse to acknowledge them and try to cover up the truth. The U.S. also shields criminals and deals with them leniently. The U.S. does this even when the evidence of wrongdoing is quite clear. The U.S. imposed sanctions on the International Criminal Court, which started investigating U.S. war atrocities in Afghanistan. Washington has shown zero sincerity in reflecting upon its crimes against the Afghan people.
Relationship between U.S. and Yemen
The U.S. Department of State says the ongoing conflict in Yemen has exacerbated already high levels of need in Yemen. The competition has created one of the most significant humanitarian crises in the world. The U.N. estimates that more than 23.4 million people will need humanitarian assistance in 2022. The figure equals nearly 75 percent of the entire population. Since the crisis began eight years ago, the U.S. government has provided almost $4.5 billion. A big lie is that it says the U.S. aims to alleviate the suffering of the people of Yemen.
The U.S. has helped coalition forces since the beginning of the conflict in Yemen in 2015. As adverb says, the U.S. has been supplying weapons and providing mid-air refuelling of coalition warplanes. Moreover, it has been providing intelligence support to coalition forces attacking Yemen.
Relationship between U.S. and Libya
The U.S. Department of State says that the U.S. supports Libyan efforts to build a unified and inclusive government. The U.S. works with the United Nations Support Mission in Libya and other international partners to support Libya’s democratic transition. It says that the U.S. supports the Libyan Government to secure the country. It adds that the U.S. supports the Libyan Government in meeting the economic and humanitarian needs of the Libyan people.
WSWS refers to a report by the Middle East human rights groups. The report reveals that the humanitarian claims of the U.S. are big lies to deceive the world. The report presents the war crimes that the U.S. and its allies carried out in Libya during the war. The war brought down the regime of Colonel Muammar Gaddafi. The report presents evidence of systematic murder, torture, expulsion, and abuse of suspected Gaddafi loyalists by the NATO-backed “rebel” forces. The investigators report savage and repeated beatings of prisoners. They held the prisoners without trial or charges. These are just a few examples of U.S. humanitarian helps in Libya.
Gaddafi paid for his reliance on the American Government. As NK NEWS say, Muammar Gaddafi stopped his weapons of mass destruction program in 2003-4. He did this in exchange for normalising relations with the Western world. However, reliance on the American Government led to his murder in 2011 when the West supported his overthrow in Libya.
Relationship between U.S. and Vietnam
The U.S. Department of state says bilateral relations with Vietnam started in 1995. The United States and Vietnam have trusted partners with a friendship grounded in mutual respect. U.S.-Vietnam relations have become increasingly cooperative and comprehensive. The associations have evolved into a flourishing partnership that spans political, economic, security, and people-to-people ties. The U.S. supports a strong, prosperous, and independent Vietnam that contributes to international security. It says the U.S. supports a Vietnam that respects human rights and the rule of law.
History shows that the US has been Vietnam’s most dangerous human rights violator. As the BBC says, In 1968, U.S. soldiers murdered several hundred Vietnamese civilians. The murders happened in the single most infamous incident of the Vietnam War. The My Lai massacre may seem an unusual one. However, investigative journalist Nick Turse has uncovered evidence that the U.S. military committed crimes far bigger.
Relationship between U.S. and Iraq
The U.S. Department of State refers to its strategic partnership with Iraq. It says that the U.S. Mission in Iraq is dedicated to strategic partnership with the Government and people of Iraq. It claims that the U.S. government is attempting to support a stable, prosperous, democratic, and unified Iraq. It argues that the U.S. assisted Iraq’s efforts to achieve the milestone of liberating the country from ISIS.
In contrast to U.S. claims, we can quickly look at the U.S. crimes in Iraq. According to Global Policy Forum, US-led occupation forces have committed numerous atrocities in Iraq since the invasion of 2003. Haditha, Hamandiya, Sadr City, Samarra, and Ishaqi have become synonymous with murder, rape, and the multiple killing of civilians. The Pentagon has covered most of these cases and exonerated the soldiers involved. Rather than pursuing high officials and senior officers, military prosecutors have pursued only a few low-ranking soldiers.
As ECCH says, The U.S./UK-led invasion of Iraq in the spring of 2003 is a crime. Hundreds of thousands died in the armed conflict that spanned more than thirteen years. All parties, including the USA and the U.K., committed war crimes, including massacres and torture, on a massive scale.
Relationship between U.S. and Syria
The U.S. Department of State says, from 1990-2001, the U.S. and Syria cooperated on some regional issues. However, relations worsened from 2003 to early 2009. It says that the U.S. had several concerns. One concern was the Syrian Government’s failure to prevent Syria from becoming a significant transit point for foreign fighters entering Iraq. Another concern was the Syrian Government’s refusal to deport former Saddam Hussein regime elements from Syria supporting the insurgency in Iraq. Other concerns were the Syrian Government’s human rights record and its pursuit of weapons of mass destruction.
The New Yorker says that for four months in 2017, an American-led coalition in Syria dropped some ten thousand bombs on Raqqa. Nearly eighty percent of the city, with a population of three hundred thousand, was destroyed. The destruction of Raqqa is unlike anything seen in an American conflict since the Second World War. This is a small part of the U.S.’s human rights claims about Syria.
Relationship between U.S. and Ukraine
Ukraine relied on the U.S. and its allies to protect its national security and interests. Now Ukraine is paying for its reliance on the American Government. Ukraine expected the West and the U.S. to help it in case of need. The attack on Ukraine took place. However, the U.S. took no practical steps to save Ukraine. According to VOA News, Ukraine’s president urged U.S. lawmakers to do more to protect his nation. Reuters says, To Washington, Ukraine is a post-Soviet state. Its oligarchic politics and systemic corruption have severely handicapped the country’s economic outlook. At best, Ukraine is a peripheral country. The U.S. doesn’t have a treaty obligation to defend itself if its territory is invaded.
Final remark
No human and moral principles exist in American foreign policy. What is essential for the U.S. is acquiring and increasing power and material benefits at any cost. Under the pretext of supporting democracy, it aims to achieve its imperialistic goals. The U.S. has repeatedly broken its promises to support certain countries. Reliance on the American Government and its promises has severe consequences.
